Heneger Joins the Race for Legislature in District 41
Cairo, Neb.-- Dr. Jeremy Heneger has officially entered the special election for District 41 of the Nebraska Legislature, which includes Boone, Buffalo, Greeley, Hall, Howard, Sherman, Valley, and Wheeler counties.
Heneger recently relocated to Cairo when his wife, Dr. Kaela Heneger, was named Superintendent of Centura Public Schools. The couple started their teaching careers in Clay Center, Nebraska. “While I may be new to District 41, I am familiar with the issues that residents of the district face daily. I grew up in Weeping Water, and we lived in Clay Center. Communities like these and those throughout District 41 must have a strong voice in the Legislature,” Heneger said.
Heneger is running for office because he believes that too many politicians in both Lincoln and D.C. are focused on the wrong things. “They spend so much time enriching big donors instead of focusing efforts on what would improve the lives of regular citizens.” Heneger expressed frustration with the current Unicamerial as they have repeatedly undermined initiatives overwhelmingly approved by voters, such as medical marijuana and the $15 minimum wage.
Heneger has spent 25 years working in the education sector and holds both a master’s degree and a doctorate in education leadership from Doane University. “I became a teacher, and I am running for the legislature, because I believe strongly in the idea of being a servant leader. Good leaders lead because they want to be of service to others,” Heneger said
Property taxes are top of mind for Heneger. “Nebraska’s leaders have spent a great deal of time on the issue of property taxes with little success. Nebraska families, farms, and small businesses continue to bear the weight of high taxes, and it is time to be innovative! Nebraska’s future depends on making progress on this and so many other important issues,” said Heneger.
“Farming and ranching are so important to Nebraska. Protecting family farms and advocating for the “right to repair” are key issues for the district and, therefore, for me,” said Heneger.
“Nebraska has a great education system, but there is always room to improve. Public money must continue to fund public schools and should not be diverted to people trying to profit from something that should be a free service for all children. The voters were clear about this, too, said Heneger.” He looks forward to working with education stakeholders to modernize Nebraska’s education system.
Heneger and his wife, Kaela, have two daughters. Mackenzie lives and works in Colorado. Their youngest, Ada, is a freshman at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She is an English major. The couple also has a Corman Shepard named Mork. He is officially spoiled!
Heneger is excited about connecting with residents of District 41. “I have lots of ideas, but what I really look forward to is listening to others. It is essential for public servants to listen to what their constituents care about and to advocate on their behalf,” said Heneger
